CSforME is a research-practice partnership (RPP) bringing together educators and researchers to support high school teachers in integrating computer science and computational thinking into social studies, English language arts, math, arts and science classrooms in Penobscot County, Maine.
The project focuses on preparing and supporting core teachers—not just computer science teachers—to use small, meaningful CS/CT learning experiences with students.
This work is designed to strengthen rural learning opportunities, expand workforce pathways, and ensure every student in Maine has access to modern computing skills for future study and employment.
Over the course of the project, 140 rural teachers will participate in hands-on learning experiences and receive ready-to-use materials to bring CS/CT into their classrooms.
1.
Establish a successful, interdisciplinary research-practice partnership (RPP) that brings a variety of perspectives.
2.
Implement an Exploratory Research Plan that informs the RPP’s work and future planning.
3.
Lead four Stakeholder Listening Sessions in Penobscot County.
4.
Perform a curriculum scan by collecting and examining a minimum of 20 sets of integrated CS/CT learning materials that are applicable across five core disciplines and four grades.
5.
Develop and pilot test four, two-day Professional Learning Workshops (one for each of the core disciplines) built around selected integrated lessons.
6.
Create, implement, test, iterate, replicate, and disseminate four Integrated CS/CT Unplugged Kits and employ them through teacher In-Service Workshops at 12 area high schools.
7.
Implement a broad dissemination and communication plan raising awareness and interest in local, statewide, and national stakeholders.
8.
Document work and research findings to plan future work.
